M. Phil.

An MPhil degree is a research degree with a coursework component, comprising 72 Units of credit, 24 Units of coursework, and 48 Units of Project.

The normal duration is 3 semesters (one semester of coursework and two of project ) and students may be enrolled in internal or external mode.

Articulation from an MPhil to a PhD is possible and is normally the equivalent of 1 session full time of coursework and 2 sessions of project. However advanced standing may be given for courses completed as part of a prior postgraduate coursework degree in the same field

This program may suit you if :

  • You wish to undertake a slightly shorter and more practical workplace based project than is usual for an MSc
  • You completed your degree more than 5 years ago and want to update your learning before commencing a PhD
  • Your undergraduate qualification is not directly in the area of your intended research
The MPhil can be completed in any of the school's research groups. Contact the relevant person to discuss details.
