Master of Science and Technology in Occupational Medicine

The Master of Science and Technology in Occupational Medicine is a graduate program for medical graduates intending to become occupational physicians. It is the third stage in an articulated sequence of Graduate Certificate in Occupational Rehabilitation, and Graduate Diploma and Master of Science and Technology programs in occupational medicine. The Master of Science and Technology in Occupational Medicine is available in on campus and off campus study modes. This program is suitable for occupational physician trainees of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational Medicine of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. The program requires 48 UOC and is normally completed in one year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) study, and is available in on campus or off campus learning mode. Competencies Students who complete the Master of Science and Technology in Occupational Medicine should also be able to:
- apply the skills of a medical practitioner to diagnose, assess and advise on the management of workplace injury and disease and recommend approaches to their assessment and control.
- conduct workplace based assessments in order to carry out risk management of workplace hazards and risks;
- retrieve, critically appraise, disseminate and effectively communicate information related to occupational health and safety (including legislative, regulatory, medical, and medico-legal aspects);
- consult and communicate with workers, management and other professionals in an appropriate manner to facilitate change in the workplace.
- design, conduct and interpret occupational medicine, epidemiological or rehabilitation investigations and design, implement and evaluate workplace prevention strategies.
