Prerequisite Courses : SESC9101 - Occupational Health and Safety
SESC9201 - Safety Risk Management
Warning : Students planning to enrol in this course should be aware that it requires extensive knowledge in OHS and OHS management. Risk and Safety Science students should take this course at the end of their studies and students from other disciplines should ensure that they have extensive OHS knowledge.

The RABQSA International competency mark is 65% for this course. Students who do not achieve this mark are assessed as not yet competent.

  
Certification : This course is certified by RABQSA International as meeting the training requirements for Internal Auditor and for Management Systems Auditor Certification and comprises competency unit RABQSA-AU.
  
Description :

An introduction to planning and conducting safety, health and environmental management systems audits. ISO 19011 Guidelines for Quality and/or Environmental Management Systems Auditing. Audit frameworks, the audit process, collecting evidence, audit skills, audit reporting, leading audit teams. Assessment for the course includes continuous assessment, role play and planning and carrying out an audit of a SHE topic. A working knowledge of industry practices, OHS principles and relevant legislation is required.

Exclusion/s: SESC9341

The School of Risk and Safety Sciences, The University of New South Wales has been accredited under the RABQSA International Training Provider and Examination Scheme (TPECS) to provide training and examination for the RABQSA International competency unit Auditing Management Systems, as SESC9060 Principles of Safety, Health and Environmental Auditing.

This course MUST be undertaken with the RABQSA competency unit Auditing OHS Management Systems, as SESC9340 OHS Management Systems.

  
Objectives :

After the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Apply the principles, procedures and techniques of auditing.
  • Relate the organisational management systems to audit criteria.
  • Conduct an effective audit in the context of a suitable organisational situation.
  • Apply appropriate regulations and other considerations that are relevant to the audit management system and the conduct of an audit.
  • Practice personal attributes necessary for the effective and efficient conduct of a management system audit.
  
Course Texts : Required Reading Participants MUST obtain a copy of AS/NZS 4801 and bring it to the workshop.
  • AS/NZS 4801 Occupational health and safety management systems – specifications with guidance for use. (Published by Standards Australia)
  • AS/NZS ISO 19011:2002. Guidelines for Quality and/or Environmental Management Systems Auditing (Published by Standards Australia)
  • AS/NZS 4804 Occupational health and safety management systems - General guidelines on principles, systems and supporting techniques. (Published by Standards Australia)

A coursepack will be supplied to course participants.

It is strongly recommended that all course participants purchase a copy of AS/NZS ISO 19011.
