Max Hely is a Visiting Fellow and Lecturer in Ergonomics at the School of Risk and Safety Sciences, University of NSW. He is a Certified Professional Ergonomist with degrees in Human Movement Science (Biomechanics, Physiology) and Psychology and has partly completed a Doctorate in Human Factors & Ergonomics.

Currently the National President of the Human Factors & Ergonomics Society of Australia, Max has held Ergonomics positions with the National Occupational Health & Safety Commission (Worksafe Australia), WorkCover NSW and the National Safety Council of Australia. He is an invited member of both the WorkCover NSW Safe Design Advisory Group and the Australian Safety & Compensation Council’s Expert Reference Group for Safe Design, and has taught human factors/ergonomics to under- and post-graduate students at the Universities of Sydney, Wollongong and Macquarie.

Some recent consultancies and commercial research have included investigations of both physical and cognitive workload in operators of industrial vehicles, evaluations of driver workstations and tasks, and the safe design of fitness facilities and services.

Max is a member of the Human Factors & Ergonomics Society of Australia, the Human Factors & Ergonomics Society (USA), the Australian Association for Exercise & Sports Science, the International Society of Biomechanics and the Australian Psychological Society. Some recent publications, presentations and reports relevant to his interests include:
