I arrived at the School of Safety Science in February 2004, where I started working as a Post-Doctoral Fellow.

In 2006 I was appointed as a Research Fellow, to contribute to the development of both numerical and experimental tools to explore the behaviour and risk of injury of the human body in impact.

Having a background in Mechanical Engineering, I began to be interested in Biomechanics after graduating, when I had the opportunity to join the “Laboratoire de Biomécanique” in Paris. There, I focused my work on the application of Finite Element modelling to musculoskeletal systems, first during my Masters, where I studied the behaviour of the knee-joint during flexion. In 2003, I completed my PhD in Mechanics, working on the mechanisms of injury and the risk assessment at neck level during whiplash loadings (Link to Thesis).

At the School of Safety Science, I am working jointly with Dr. A. McIntosh, my main interest being the biomechanics of impact, both in the fields of contact sports as well as automotive impacts. (Safety Science Biomechanics Research page)

I am currently involved in the following projects:

  • Biomechanics of concussion in sports
  • Rugby tackle study (IRB medical research scheme)
  • Pedal cycle and motorbike helmet study
  • High performance equestrian helmet study
